Panthers Look to Stay Hot at Gardner-Webb

The High Point University women's soccer team (5-6-1, 4-0-1 Big South) looks to continue its winning ways in Big South Conference play as it travels to Gardner-Webb (4-8-1, 3-1-0 Big South) on Wednesday (October 9) for a midweek matchup.  
 
Matchup History
  • HPU boasts a 10-2-4 record all time against the Runnin' Bulldogs, with last season's matchup in High Point resulting in a 2-2 draw.
     
  • The Panthers earned a 1-0 overtime victory the last time they traveled to Boiling Springs (Oct. 11, 2017). 
     
Panther Notes
  • High Point heads into the contest riding a season-high four game win streak with a 4-0-1 record in conference matches. The Panthers have outshot their opponents by a 12-3 margin over the four-game span.
     
  • Freshman Sam Gerhart leads the team with nine points, tallying three goals and three assists.
     
  • Senior Ashlyn Kearney has a team-leading four goals, including a brace in last Saturday's 6-2 triumph over Hampton in High Point.
     
  • Senior Talia Klimes has started all 12 games in net and sports a 1.36 goals against average.
 
Across the Bench
  • Gardner-Webb enters the match coming off a 1-0 win over Charleston Southern last Saturday (Oct. 5), after previously dropping a 3-2 decision to Campbell earlier in the week (Wednesday, Oct. 2).
     
  • Prior to the setback, the Runnin' Bulldogs had a season-long three match winning streak, earning victories over South Carolina State, Winthrop and Hampton.
     
  • Gardner-Webb is led by senior Stina Kleppe, who leads the squad with 20 points (8g, 4a). Kleppe leads the Big South in goals and assists, while ranking tied for fourth in assists. 
     
Up Next: The Panthers return to Vert Stadium this coming Saturday (Oct. 12) under the lights when they host conference foe Radford at 7 p.m.
