HPU Heads to Clinton to Battle Blue Hose

The first place High Point University women's soccer team (7-6-1, 6-0-1 Big South) travels to Clinton, S.C. to face Presbyterian (4-9, 3-3 Big South) in a midweek Big South matchup. As the only undefeated team in Big South play, the Panthers look to maintain their winning ways.

 Matchup History

  • The Panthers lead the series with the Blue Hose 10-3-1, with their last meeting at Vert Stadium where High Point came away with a 4-1 victory. Megan Baker, Shaylyn Owen, Skyler Prillaman, and Alex Denny all scored for the Panthers. 
  • The last time HPU played in Clinton against PC the Panthers won 2-0 back in 2017. 

Panther Notes

  • High Point comes into Wednesday night's contest with a roster that features two reigning Big South Players of the week. Emma Schossler won freshman of the week after scoring two goals in the win over Radford. Talia Klimes won defensive player of the week after recording two shutouts in back to back games along with 9 saves on the week. 
  • The Panthers have seven different players who have scored multiple goals this season. Ashlyn Kearney leads the team with four on the season. Sam Gerhart, Carsyn Gold, and Emma Schossler are all tied for second with three goals each.
  • Last time out High Point defeated Radford in Vert Stadium 3-0. Schossler netted the first two goals for HPU, while Alex Palmer scored the third goal of the evening off a free kick from near midfield. The rocket of a shot put the Panthers up 3-0 and powered them to the win. The goal was Palmer's second of the year. Klimes recorded her fourth shutout of the year.
  • High Point is tied for second in the Big South in goals with Winthrop, each team has scored 22 this season. 

 Across the Bench

  • Presbyterian enters the match coming off a 2-0 loss against Gardner Webb. The Blue Hose are 2-3 over their last five matches. 
  • The Blue Hose started hot in Big South play as they won three of their first four conference matches. 
  • Presbyterian is led in scoring by junior Morgan Hutchison who has five goals on the year. She also leads in assists with three on the season. 

Up Next: The Panthers return to vert Stadium on Saturday (Oct. 19) as they host Winthrop at 7 p.m.
