HPU Continues Road Slate In Blacksburg

HIGH POINT, N.C.— High Point University women's soccer gets back on the road this Sunday with a 5 p.m. match at Virginia Tech.

The Panthers will attempt to bounce back against the Hokies after taking a loss in Richmond this past Friday against Virginia Commonwealth. They face a Virginia Tech squad that has opened the season on a three-match unbeaten streak, most recently defeating UNCW 2-1 on Friday.

On the Panthers
• Freshman Skyler Prillaman added her second goal of the year against VCU, giving the forward a team-high
• Junior defender Brie Deel has played a team-high 201 minutes in 2018, scoring the first goal of her career in the Panthers' opener against Appalachian State
• Of HPU's 13 true freshmen, nine have made appearances in 2018, and three have made starts
• With a pair of tallies this year, only two other Big South players have more goals than Prillaman, placing her in a tie for the highest-scoring freshman in the conference
 
On the Hokies
• The Hokies opened the season with the Virginia Tech tournament, working to a pair of draws against San Diego and No. 22 Georgetown
• Freshman forward Karlie Johnson leads Va Tech with a pair of goals, while fellow first-years Molly Feighan and Emily Gray each have an assist
• Starting goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn currently ranks third in the ACC with 13 saves, collecting a shutout against San Diego to open the season
 
Series Notes:
• Virginia Tech currently leads the all-time series against High Point, yet the pair have not played each other since 2013
• HPU's last contest against an ACC opponent came in the first round of the 2017 NCAA women's soccer championship tournament, where the UNC Tar Heels beat the Panthers 3-0
