HPU Opens Season against Appalachian State Friday

HIGH POINT, N.C.—The High Point University women's soccer team opens the 2018 campaign Friday night (Aug. 17) against Appalachian State, with kickoff at Vert Stadium scheduled for 7 p.m.

On the Panthers
• After winning the Big South regular season and tournament titles in 2017, the Panthers have been picked as the Big South Preseason Poll favorite. 
• The Panthers went 13-8-1 overall and return 17 letterwinners and three starters.
• The season opener starts a new era for the Purple & White as Brandi Fontaine takes the helm after being an HPU assistant and associate head coach for the last nine seasons.
• High Point is 3-0-1 in its last four season openers.
 
On the Mountaineers
• App State returns 19 letterwinners and six starters from last season.
• The Mountaineers went 4-11-4 in 2017, including 3-5-2 in Sun Belt play
• App State's leading returning goal scorer is Kat Greer, who scored five in 2017
 
Series Notes:
• High Point leads the series, 4-3-0, in seven all-time meetings with App State
• In the last meeting, HPU picked up a 1-0 win on a Maggie Gruber goal in the 18th minute on Aug. 18, 2017 in the season opener for both teams
• App State's last win in the series came in 2015, a 1-0 victory.
