HIGH POINT, N.C.—Student-athletes of the High Point University Athletic Department participated in the first Panther Litter Pounce over the wet and soggy weekend of April 6-9, where they helped clean up High Point city.
Â
A total of 55 HPU student-athletes volunteered for a total of 70 hours, collecting approximately 48 trash bags and 26 recycling bags.
Â
"It felt great to help out in the local High Point community," HPU women's soccer redshirt junior Charlotte Kennedy said. "The group I was with received assistance from some of the youth group and parishioners of Greater New Hope Baptist Church. Everyone enjoyed speaking with the local community about their church, the neighbors and of course the huge construction that will take place very soon in downtown High Point and on High Point University's Campus. Everyone I have met in the High Point community has been incredibly supportive of the student-athletes at the University and are always looking for ways to connect more with us and other students.
Â
"It was important for student-athletes to participate because it was an athlete-driven event. The Student Athletic Advisory Committee wanted to create an annual event that majority of athletes could participate in. It provided athletes an opportunity to socialize with other athletes from different teams by servicing the local community that supports us at all of our games, events and meets."
