High Point Notes:
• The Panthers are participating in the championship game for the second straight season and for the third time in the last four years. Overall, this is HPU's eighth championship game appearance (1-1-5 record), the second-most in Big South history.
• High Point is aiming for its sixth Big South tournament title, which would tie for the most in conference history (Liberty). The current senior class, which has won a school record 49 games in their careers, won the title as freshmen in 2014.
• Of HPU's previous five tournament titles, only once has it come in a year in which it was also regular season champions (2010).
• High Point trumped No. 4 Campbell, 3-1, in the league semis Friday. Seniors
Meredith Dunker and
Aley Kate McKinley scored their first goals of the season in the first half. Senior
Bri Jean-Charles added her third goal of the year in the second half.
• The Panthers have won at least 12 games in each of the last four seasons. Prior to this current stretch, HPU had never won more than 11 games in a single year. A win today would tie last year's team for the school record with 13 victories.
• HPU enters the conference championship match on a six-game winning streak for the second straight year.
Longwood Notes:
• Longwood is making its first conference championship game appearance after dispatching No. 2 Liberty, 2-0, on Friday.
• The Lancers are unbeaten in their last 10 matches (8-0-2) since losing to High Point in the conference opener.
• First team All-Conference honoree Emilie Kupsov scored the game-winner in the 71st minute on Friday and is the team's leader in goals (7) and points (18)
• Longwood leads the league in GAA (0.53) thanks to Maria Kirby, who has posted a league-best .887 save percentage. Kirby has also recorded a league-high 11 shutouts this season.
Series Notes:
• High Point and Longwood are meeting in the Big South tournament for the third straight season and fourth time overall. HPU is 3-0-0 against the Lancers in the postseason.
• The Panthers defeated LU in the quarterfinals, 5-0, in 2015 and slipped by the Lancers in overtime, 1-0, in last year's semifinals.
• High Point won the regular season matchup, 1-0, on Sep. 23 in Farmville. Senior
Michele Micciche connected on a penalty kick in the 15th minute for the lone goal.
• HPU is 3-0-1 in the last four meetings, posting four shutouts.
