High Point Notes:
• HPU's 15 seniors accounts for nearly half of the 32-member roster. The senior class has won 44 games in three-plus years, which has tied the Div. I school record for wins by a four-year class. A win today would establish a new school record.
• The Panthers utilized a golden goal in overtime at Gardner-Webb on Wednesday to improved to 4-1-1 in conference play. Senior
Becca Rolfe scored the game winner of a set piece with less than 30 seconds remaining in the first OT.
• Three of HPU's four league victories have come in extra time on golden goals by
Paige Rombach (Radford),
Bri Jean-Charles (CSU) and Rolfe. HPU is now unbeaten in its last 12 regular season OT matches over the last three years, posting a 5-0-7 mark.
• Senior
Alex Hank pitched her fourth solo shutout in her last six matches at Gardner-Webb, making six saves in the process, three in OT. In conference games, Hank is second in save percentage (.933), GAA (0.31) and shutouts (4).
• As a result of Hank's prowess, HPU is second in the league in GAA through six conference contests. High Point is one of three teams in the league to post four shutouts through the first six Big South matches.
Winthrop Notes:
• Winthrop recorded a 4-1 victory over UNC Asheville on Wednesday. Natalie Royaards notched a hat trick in the match after scoring one goal in her first five games.
• Allie Thomas leads the Eagles with 12 points (six goals), tied for seventh in the league. The six goals are tied for the third most in the conference.
• Ashlynn Harris has been Winthrop's goalkeeper in each of the last five matches, registering a 1.58 GAA and .758 save pct.
• WU enters tied for sixth in the league standings as they look to return to the Big South tournament after missing last season.
Series Notes:
• The Panthers and Eagles are squaring off for the 19th time in school history.
• High Point has seized control of the all-time series with four straight victories, all via shutout. HPU has not yielded a tally to the Eagles since a 2-1 loss in 2013.
•
Alex Hank has made six saves without allowing a goal in three matches against Winthrop.
• Last season,
Bri Jean-Charles' goal in the 62nd minute was the difference as HPU claimed the Big South title with a 1-0 win.
