HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University women's soccer team will travel to Lynchburg, Va., to take on preseason conference favorite Liberty on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 4 p.m., in a rematch of last season's Big South Championship.

High Point is 7-2-4 overall and 2-1-1 in the Big South following a 0-0 draw with Coastal Carolina on Wednesday. The clean sheet was the eighth of the season for the Panthers, tying the program's Div. I single-season record. Sophomore Alex Persiani has six saves against the Chanticleers to notch her conference-best sixth shutout of the season.

The Panthers have featured a balanced offense in 2015 with 10 players combining to score 17 goals. Redshirt-junior Kelsey Perrell and sophomores Bri Jean-Charles, Michele Micciche and Becca Rolfe are all tied for the team lead with six points through 13 games. Rolfe and Micciche are also tied for the team lead in goals with three each. Sophomores Taylor Romano and Meredith Dunker both have three assists this season to pace the Panthers.

The HPU defense has been among the nation's best this season, allowing just six goals in 13 games. Persiani has played 10 games in goal and is 4-2-4 with a 0.48 goals-against average and an .886 save percentage. The sophomore has allowed just one goal in the past five games and currently has a scoreless streak of 320 minutes.

Liberty is the defending Big South Regular Season Champion and enters the weekend with a 6-6-1 overall record and a 4-1-0 mark in conference play following a surprising 2-0 loss at Presbyterian College on Wednesday. The loss ended a four-game win streak for the Flames.

A trio of talented players in Jennifer Knoebel, Brittany Aanderud and Devon Jones lead LU's attack in 2015, accounting for 10 of the Flames' 14 goals this season. Knoebel leads the team with 13 points on a team-high four goals and five assists. Aanderud has three goals and three assists and Jones has scored three goals.

Despite playing a very difficult non-conference slate, the Liberty defense has done very well this season, holding opponents to just 1.23 goals per game. Defending Big South Defensive Player of the Year Holly Van Noord has started every game in goal for the Flames and is 6-6-1 with a 1.13 goals-against average and a .844 save percentage.

High Point trails in the all-time series with Liberty, posting a 10-14-3 mark in 27 meetings. The Panthers went 0-1-1 last season against LU. HPU lost by a score of 2-0 at home during the regular season but bounced back to claim the Big South Championship on penalty kicks after playing the Flames to a 2-2 draw in Greensboro. Dunker and Jean-Charles both scored for High Point in the Championship.
