ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The High Point University women's soccer team went on the road and grabbed all three points with a 3-0 win at UNC Asheville on Wednesday night in Asheville, N.C.  Junior Jenny Marshall played a role in each of HPU's first two goals with a score and an assist.

"I am very proud of this team tonight," head coach Marty Beall said. "We have so many girls who are playing in pain right now and this shows their commitment to push through. I thought our team defending was excellent. We shut down the conference's most potent attack. We got better tonight, we improved our possession and generated a lot of dangerous scoring chances."

High Point improves to 8-3-4 overall and 3-2-1 in the Big South with the win on Wednesday while UNC Asheville drops to 10-5-0 overall and 4-3-0 in conference play. The shutout was the ninth of the season for HPU, a new program Div. I record.

Marshall gave the Panthers an early advantage, scoring in the fifth minute to put HPU in front, 1-0. High Point earned a corner kick and played it short before sophomore Paige Lloyd lofted a cross to the far post. Marshall got inside her marker for an easy header and a one-goal lead. The score was the first of the season for Marshall.

High Point doubled its lead in the 63rd minute as Marshall played in sophomore Bri Jean-Charles who beat Bulldog keeper Lily Brown with a ball to the lower right corner. Marshall got her head on a short goal kick and delivered the ball to Jean-Charles who split the two Asheville center backs before finishing smoothly into the net. The goal was her third of the season.

The Panthers added an insurance goal in the 87th minute when freshman Tyler Gordon turned the Bulldogs over in their own defensive third and hit a shot on net from 25 yards. The effort glanced off Brown's hands and into the net for Gordon's second goal of the season.

Both teams had 12 shots on the night and seven shots on goal but sophomore keeper Alex Persiani proved to be the difference for the Panthers, stopping seven shots for her seventh clean sheet of the season. She needs just one more shutout to match the HPU Div. I single-season mark.

High Point returns home this weekend to play host to Radford on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. HPU earned a 3-1 win over the Highlanders on the road last season thanks to two goals by Sarah Sermonet and one from Kai-Lin Hernandez.
