First Day Results
The High Point University men's track & field team opened up its outdoor season on Friday at the Coastal Carolina Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Junior
Christian Spaulding won the javelin with an HPU record toss of 68.19 meters (223-9).
Spaulding's toss on Friday bested second-place finisher, Tyler Kachelries of Slippery Rock, who had a throw of 62.74 meters (205-10). Spaulding topped the previous school record, which he set at last year's VertKlasse meet, with a mark of 66.65 meters (218-8).
Also in the field events, sophomore
Will Narramore set a career-best outdoor mark in flight "A" of the long jump with a distance of 6.52 meters (21-4.75).
The Panthers also had several successes on the track in the first day of the two-day meet. The 4x800-meter relay team of
Luke Goodrich,
Eddie Whitlock,
Kevin Maguire and
Paul O'Donoghue won the competition finishing in 7:51.65. Goodrich also won his heat and finished third in the 400-meter open event crossing in 51.32.
Sophomore
Nick Hula won his heat in the 400-meter hurdles and finished third overall in the open event with a time of 56.88.
High Point will wrap up the CCU Invite tomorrow, Saturday, March 15. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
