The High Point University men's track & field team took part in the Winston-Salem State Open on Sunday in Winston-Salem, N.C. after competing at the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, Va. the past two days.
HPU featured athletes in four track events and two field events on Sunday with the Panthers' best finish coming in the pole vault.
Freshman
Isaiah Henderson won the pole vault competition with a mark of 3.95 meters (12-11.50). Freshmen
Andrew Mahon and
Eric Purnell came in third and fourth, respectively, after both posting vaults of 2.75 meters (9-0.25).
Mahon also competed in High Point's only other field event of the day, the long jump, where he took seventh with a distance of 5.08 meters (16-8.00).
On the track, sophomore
Paul O'Donoghue placed 12th with a time of 52.06 in the 400-meter run. Freshman
Luke Goodrich also competed in the race finishing behind O'Donoghue in 13th in 52.27.
In the 800-meter, freshman
Nick Williams came in 15th and sophomore
Nick Davis took 18th. Williams ran a 2:07.30 in the event while Davis finished in 2:11.01.
The group of Williams, O'Donoghue, Davis and Goodrich also combined in the 4x400-meter relay to place sixth with a time of 3:35.21.
Freshman
Andrew Kuras ran in HPU's only other track event of the day, the 60-meter dash. Kuras finished 27th in preliminaries with a time of 7.20.
High Point return to competition next Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Tar Heel Open in Chapel Hill, N.C.
