The High Point University men's track & field team opened the indoor season at the Wake Forest Invitation at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C. Sophomore
Austin Miller was HPU's top finisher in the field events, taking fifth in the pole vault, and senior
Evan Emery took eighth in the 60-meter dash.
Miller cleared 4.60 meters (15-1) on his third attempt at the height to tie for fourth with two other competitors. Sophomore
Harris Coley cleared 4.15 meters (13-7.25) to place ninth and freshman
Jose San Miguel took 11th, also clearing 4.15 meters. In the throwing circle, sophomore
Jim Wilson placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 12.95 meters (42-5.75) and junior
Christian Spaulding took eighth in the weight throw with a toss of 13.35 meters (43-9.5).
Also in the jumps, sophomore
Will Narramore placed eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 13.34 meters (43-9) on his fourth attempt. In the high jump, sophomore
Adam DeVito and freshman
Andrew Mahon both cleared 1.78 meters (5-10) to tie for 12th and freshman

Emery ran a time of 6.91 in the 60-meter dash preliminaries and came in at 6.92, placing eighth in the finals. Sophomore
Andrew Kuras placed 24th in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash in 7.11. Sophomore
Dennis Crawford placed third in his heat and 12th overall in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.51. Sophomore
Nick Hula won his heat and placed 20th in the 400-meter.
High Point's distance medley relay team of
Kevin Maguire, Hula,
Zach Hostetler and
Vinny Todaro placed second with a time of 10:38.41. Todaro also placed fifth in the open mile with a time of 4:25.65. Sophomore
Cody Seymour placed third in the 3,000-meter with a time of 8:51.19 and freshman
Mason Lenox placed eighth.
In the 800-meter, sophomore
Eddie Whitlock, freshman
Luke Goodrich and sophomore
Paul O'Donoghue went 1-2-3 in their heat. Whitlock's leading time was 1:59.36, just ahead of Goodrich's 1:59.71.
Next up for the Panthers is the Virginia Tech Invitational next Friday and Saturday in Blacksburg, Va. It's the same track that will host the Big South Championship Feb. 28-March 1.
