High Point outshot old rival Elon, 18-8, but the Panthers surrendered a pair of second-half goals and were unable to mount a comeback in a 2-0 loss Sunday afternoon in women's soccer action in Elon.

The Panthers, who were shut out for the first time this season, dropped to 1-3, while the Phoenix claimed their first win of the year and are now 1-5.

HPU outshot Elon 6-3 in the first half, which ended without a goal for either team. But the Phoenix came out strong following the break and got on the board in the 47th minute on a goal by Kristen Albert. Erin Gaeng was credited with the assist.

The Phoenix scored an insurance goal in the 70th minute when Kate Schabo found the net off an assist from Lacey Whitmer.

Offensively, the Panthers were led by Carolyn Bader's four shots. Eileen Mazeika had three and Tanya Wolf, Lena Svensson and Ryan Hays added two shots apiece.

In her first-career start, freshman goalie Katie Myers made one save.

HPU continues its road swing with visits to Western Kentucky and Belmont next weekend, beginning with a Friday night contest in Bowling Green against the Hilltoppers. Kickoff is set for 8:00 pm (Eastern time).
