Unbeaten Virginia Commonwealth scored four times in the first half en route to a 5-1 victory over High Point Wednesday evening in Richmond.

Freshman Anni Svensson scored the Panthers' lone goal -- the first of her career.

The Rams (3-0) didn't wait long to draw frist blood. VCU's Jen Parsons scored in the 4th minute on a breakaway to give the host Rams a 1-0 lead. Catherine Duchesne gave the Rams a 2-0 lead in the 24th minute, and Sarah Walsh scored for VCU in the 40th minute.

Svensson put the Panthers (1-2) on the board in the 41st minute when she knocked home a rebound from a shot off the foot of sophomore Carolyn Bader, but the Rams responded moments later with another goal, by Sarah Anger.

Five of HPU's six goals this season have been scored by freshmen.

Freshman goalkeeper Courtney Noel earned her first career start -- in her hometown -- and made eight saves. The Rams outshot HPU 24-10.

The Panthers return to action on Sept. 12 in their Big South opener against two-time defending league champion Liberty in Lynchburg, Va.
