High Point got first-half goals from Jen Evans and Emily Lanham, but Elon's Jessica Mills tied things up for good in the 65th minute as High Point and Elon fought to a 2-2 tie in women's soccer action Wednesday at Albion Millis Stadium.
The teams played for the final time in the regular season as Big South Conference rivals.
The host Panthers (2-8-3, 0-2-3 Big South) opened the scoring in the 28th minute when Evans pushed a diagonal shot past Elon goalie Kara Zagol. Assists on the play were given to Lena Svennson and Eileen Mazeika. Elon (5-8-1, 2-2-1) would tie things up in the 39th minute on a goal by Kerry McCarron and assist by Gillian Murray.
HPU retook the lead on Lanham's goal in the 42nd minute. Evans provided the assist, and the Panthers reached halftime with a 2-1 advantage. But the Phoenix got the equalizer on Mills' free kick from 30 yards away, which sailed over the head of Panther keeper Courtney Noel for the tying score.
Despite a flurry of solid scoring chances, neither team managed a goal in the overtime periods.
Noel made six saves for HPU, while Lindsi Troxler stopped four shots in relief for Elon.
The Panthers host Charleston Southern Saturday at 1:00 pm.
