The VertKlasse Meeting is a European-style meet that features a small amount of high-level competitors, creating a fast-moving, exciting competition.

The name “VertKlasse” is based on the Weltklasse Zürich meet (pronounced VELT-class ZUR-ick, German for World Class Zurich), a famed international meet held annually in Switzerland. The name “Vert” was added in honor of two of HPU’s greatest benefactors and alumni, Dick and Peg Vert, for whom Vert Stadium is named. Dick Vert was a member of the HPU cross country and track teams in the late 1950s.

The HPU VertKlasse Meeting is held annually at Vert Track, Soccer & Lacrosse Stadium at High Point University. The 2018 meet will feature a one-day format with more heats/flights and more entries accepted. Belk Track at Vert Stadium is an eight-lane Benyon surface with wide-radius turns. The track area has field event space for the high jump, pole vault, long jump, triple jump. An additional throwing area was constructed in 2011, providing facilities for shot put, discus and javelin. The 36,000-square foot Witcher Athletic Center overlooks the Stadium, which features an Athletics Director Box and media suite for meet viewing and operations.
