CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Big South Conference announced the Big South Men's Basketball All-Decade Team presented by Hercules Tires on Friday morning (June 12). Nick Barbour and John Brown were the High Point players selected to the all-decade team. Barbour and Brown were teammates during the 2011-2012 season, Barbour was a senior and Brown was a freshman.
Nick Barbour | Danville, Va.| 2008-2012
As a freshman he led HPU in scoring he averaged 14.2 points and earned Big South All-Freshman honors. He played in all 30 games and started in 14 games. The freshman averaged 14.2 points per game and 2.9 rebounds while playing 27.7 minutes. In 18 conference games, he averaged 15.6 points and 2.7 rebounds in 28.9 minutes. As a Sophomore Barbour earned All-Big South honors he averaged 18.9 points per game as he started in 29 games. He was named to the NCCSIA All-State team and NABC All-District second-team. He was ranked second in the Big South in scoring and led the league in three-point percentage. Barbour entered his junior year as the Big South Preseason Player of the Year. During the 2010-2011 season, he scored his 1000th career point as a High Point Panther. He earned Second-Team All-Big South honors marking the third straight year he received All-Big South honors. As a senior, Barbour scored 633 points. His career-high that season came in the home win against Campbell as he dropped 44 points. He ended his career with a total of 2,121 points which at the time made him second in career points in program history. Barbour was named First-team All-Big South and First-Team NABC All-District. He led the Big South in scoring and was ranked 12th in the NCAA with his 20.4 points per game. He led the nation in three-point percentage (48.4) and ranked second in the nation in three-pointers per game (3.5). He holds the program record for three-pointers made with 314.
John Brown | Jacksonville, Florida | 2011-2016
As a redshirt freshman for the 2012-13 season, Brown was named the Big South freshman of the year and was the second freshman ever to receive First Team All-Big South honors. He was also named Kyle Macy Freshman All-American Second-Team All-District. The freshman averaged 16.4 points per game and averaged 6.1 rebounds. Brown entered his second season as the Big South Preseason player of the year. He became the first Big South player ever to score 1,000 points in two seasons. He was selected as the Big South Player of the Year as a sophomore. Brown's high-flying ability and electrifying dunks made him a mainstay on SportsCenter and other ESPN programs during his HPU career. During his sophomore year alone, his dunks earned the #2 and #1 spot in SportCenter's top ten countdowns during the 2013-14 season. He was named First Team All-Big South for a third consecutive season, becoming the fifth player in league history to do so. He was named Rainbow Classic MVP after notching a game-high 19 points (9-18 FG) and six rebounds in the title game vs. Hawaii ina game that was on ESPN2. As a Senior he earned Big South Player of the Year honors for the second time in his career. He averaged 19.6 points per game in his final season and scored 549 points on the year. He finished his career with 2,229 points which placed him second and his Big South All-Decade teammate Nick Barbour third all-time behind Gene Littles. Brown earned All-Big South honors four times in his career and was a two time All-American.
Men's Basketball All-Decade Team candidates were determined based on being at least one of the following: 1) Was a multiple All-Conference honoree; 2) Was named an All-American; 3) Is a member of the Big South Conference Hall of Fame; 4) Student-athletes must be a college graduate or in good academic standing with their respective institution; 5) Won a Conference Championship as a coach and/or was voted Conference Coach of the Year. Candidates that participated in two different decades were placed in a specific decade based on consultation from member institutions. Member institutions also had final determination in regards to the inclusion of student-athletes and coaches. Previous Men's Basketball All-Decade Teams were recognized for the years 1985-89, 1990-99, and 2000-09.
A 15-person committee of Big South Conference administrators served as the official voting panel to determine the All-Decade Team, with fan voting comprising 20 percent of the overall total.
