Shawn Sloan named to NCCSIA All-State team

Junior Shawn Sloan of the High Point University men's soccer team was named to the 2011 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) University Division All-State Men's Soccer Team on Wednesday. Sloan is the only HPU player to earn the award twice after also being named to the team last season.

“We are proud of Shawn and happy that he has received this honor,” head coach Dustin Fonder said. "Hopefully this will be something he can build upon as he heads into his senior season and a precursor of many awards to come.”

Sloan was named first-team All-Big South after finishing second on HPU with 15 points on four goals and seven assists. Sloan led the Panthers and was tied for third in the Big South in assists, finishing one behind the co-leaders. The midfielder scored the game-winning goal in a road win over UNC Greensboro, scoring in the final minute of double overtime.

Founded in 2002, NCCSIA is comprised of sports information professionals from North Carolina's NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions for the purpose of promoting college athletics in the state. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina whose responsibilities include sports information.
