Ken Broschart joins men’s lacrosse staff as assistant

HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point University men's lacrosse head coach Jon Torpey has announced the hiring of Ken Broschart as the program's newest assistant coach.

Broschart, who comes to HPU after a 10-year stint at Michigan, will work directly with the face-off unit while assisting with the team's defense and man-down unit.

"We are extremely excited to have Ken join the High Point Lacrosse Family," Torpey said. "Ken is a tireless worker who has a knack for building incredibly strong relationships with all those he comes in contact with. It was clear early on in the interview process and through conversations with fellow lacrosse coaches that his passion and knowledge of the game was exceptional. We look forward to having him bring his energy and expertise to our program."

Broschart comes to the Triad after spending a decade in Ann Arbor, Michigan at the University of Michigan. He became the defensive coordinator as the program transitioned to NCAA competition in 2011. Similarly, while running all aspects of the defensive strategy and scouting, Broschart served as the program's recruiting coordinator.

Under Broschart's tutelage, LSM Chase Brown became an All-Big Ten selection by leading the conference in turnovers in 2016. Meanwhile, during the 2015 season, the Wolverine's goalie Gerald Logan finished fourth in the nation in saves per game (12.31/game) for Broschart's defense.

The Long Island native started his career at Michigan as an assistant for the university's Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) Division I squad that went 76-2 and won three MCLA titles in four seasons. During that time he had a hand in all aspects of on-field coaching while also serving as the coordinator of the team's strength and conditioning program.

Prior to his time at Michigan, he was the head coach of the MCLA Division I program at the University of Arizona for four years. In those four seasons as the head coach he posted a 57-24 record and was the 2004 WCLL Coach of the Year.

Broschart also has USA National Team experience coaching the USA West National Team in 2007 as the team won titles in the Berlin Open and the Prague Cup. He also was the defensive coordinator in 2005 when the squad won the Asian Pacific Championship in Osaka, Japan.

The New York Institute of Technology graduate broke into the coaching ranks as a graduate assistant in charge of New York Tech's defense. That season the Bears posted a 13-1 record and claimed the NCAA Division II national title.

Before joining the New York Tech staff, Broschart was a three-time USILA All-America defenseman from 1997-2001. During his playing career, the Bears posted an impressive 40-12 record.

Broschart is originally from Hicksville, NY but resides in High Point, N.C. with his wife Keekan and his two children Hadley and Kase.
