Tan Cheeranont sets HPU single-season stroke average record
Freshman
Tan Cheeranont finished an impressive freshman season with the High Point University women's golf team with a stroke average of 77.6, breaking the program single-season record.
The previous season-record for stroke average was 77.7 which was set by Kate O'Sullivan over 20 rounds in 2004-05.
Cheeranont played in nine events in her rookie campaign with her 77.6 stroke average spread over 20 rounds. She finished the season with two-top 10 finishes and was HPU's best finisher at the Big South Championship. She was third at the C&F Bank Invitational and seventh at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate. She finished her freshman season with a career-best 229 in 54 holes at the league tournament.
She helped HPU shoot a 304 on the final day of the Big South Championship. It was the third-lowest round the Panthers have ever shot in a Big South Tournament and the lowest since the Panthers shot 299 and 301 in two separate rounds in 2005.
Cheeranont was named to the 2013 Big South All-Freshman team.
