The High Point University men's lacrosse team volunteered with Habitat for Humanity last Saturday. The team worked to landscape the driveway and curb and cleared construction materials from the work site of a new home for a High Point family.
“Working with Habitat for Humanity was a great way for our very fortunate group of guys to give back to the High Point community,” said head coach
Jon Torpey. “Assistant coach
Pat Tracy does a phenomenal job of getting our guys into the local community with these service projects and this was no exception. The team thoroughly enjoyed working with Habitat for Humanity and it is an experience they will take with them for the rest of their lives.”
The team helped clear away the old curb in order to make the driveway accessible. They also helped spread gravel and mulch and dug a trench for drainage pipes. They wrapped up the service project by clearing the backyard of construction waste and extra materials.
“It was a great opportunity to grow closer as a team and make a positive impact on the people around us,” said freshman Tyler Cook. “It was also an amazing experience to connect with the local community that will be our new home for next few years at High Point University. We were happy to help make it possible for a local family to live with peace of mind, in a comfortable home. We look forward to volunteering for other projects in the future.”
The men's lacrosse team begins its inaugural season in the spring. The team has 16 players who were at High Point University last year, attending class and working with the coaching staff. There are also 22 newcomers on the 2013 roster.
