TOURNAMENT RESULTS

The High Point University women's golf team finished the 2012 UNCG Starmount Forest Tournament in 15th out of 16 teams on Tuesday, Oct. 2 after the team shot a combined 307 in the third and final round. Tuesday's score paired with a 324 and 326 in the first two rounds gave the Panthers a three-round score of 957.

“We played better today," head coach Vici Pate Flesher said. "The team executed well and finally trusted that they needed to make adjustments because the course was so wet. We finished with all five players in the 70s and we need to work towards each player's potentials in order to be more consistent. We are looking forward to next week's tournament at East Carolina."

Sophomore Grier Bennett was once again the low scorer for HPU after turning in her lowest round of the tournament, 76, on Tuesday. Bennett finished with a three-round 236 (79-81-76) and in a tie for 61st overall. One-stroke behind the sophomore was senior Jessica Neese who matched Bennett's 76 on the day. Neese improved each round as she shot 81 and 80 on Monday and finished in 65th .

Senior Audra McShane and freshmen Tan Cheeranont and Casey Ward finished within three strokes of each other in the tournament. McShane scored a 244 (81-84-79) and finished in 71st, Cheeranont fired a 245 (87-81-77) and finished in a tie for 72nd, and Ward (83-85-78) finished with a 246 and in a tie for 74th.

East Carolina's F. Gustafsson Spang maintained her lead on Tuesday and earned the individual medal after pacing the field with a cumulative 206 over the two-day event. Sian Evans of East Tennessee State finished six-strokes behind to take second and Maryland's Juliet Vongphomy took home third with a 213. ETSU's Gabriella Wahl (214) and Chloe Garner (215) rounded out the top five.

ETSU also took home the top team honors after scoring an even 852 in three rounds. Maryland captured second place with a combined 876 and ECU claimed third by firing a three-round 881. Big South member Campbell (888) jumped one spot to fourth while James Madison fell to fifth (893).

High Point is off for a week before it returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 9 in Greenville, N.C., to take part in the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate, hosted by ECU. In last year's event, McShane tied for 41st to lead the Panthers, who finished 20th.
