Barbour named to NABC All-District second-team

Sophomore Nick Barbour of the High Point University men's basketball team was named to the 2010 NABC All-District Three second-team on Tuesday. Barbour led the Panthers and was second in the Big South in scoring during his sophomore season.

Barbour earned All-Big South first-team honors after averaging 18.9 point per game in 29 games during the 2009-10 season. He led the conference in three-point percentage (40.1) and was the only player in the Big South shooting over 40 percent while hitting at least 2.5 three pointers per game. He also ranked fifth in free throw percentage (76.3) and eighth in field goal percentage (42.5).

The Danville, Va., native scored over 20 points in 14 games and went over 30 points in wins over UNC Pembroke and Gardner-Webb. In the win over Pembroke, Barbour went 10-for-11 from three-point range to set the HPU record for treys in a game and the HPU and Big South records for three-point percentage in a game (90.9). He was named Big South Co-Player of the Week for that effort. His other 30-point performance came in the Panthers' overtime victory at Gardner-Webb. He hit the basket to send the game into overtime and then he tipped in his own initial shot in OT to win it.

Barbour is the first High Point player to be recognized on an NABC All-Region team since Arizona Reid was named to the second team after the 2007-08 season. It is the fourth time since joining Division I that a Panthers' player has been included on the NABC All-Region team.

High Point University finished the season with a 15-15 record and went 10-8 in conference play in its first season under head coach Scott Cherry. It was a huge improvement from HPU's 9-21, 4-14 campaign in the 2008-09 season.
